What exactly is Composite Bonding? ﹀

Composite bonding also known as dental bonding is a cosmetic dental treatment that can quickly and painlessly fix minor dental flaws to give you a wonderful new smile. It is a painless and convenient way to update the look of your teeth.

Composite bonding uses stents created from digital scans of the teeth so that specialised composite can be extruded through the fitted stent and around tooth imperfections thereby reshaping each tooth. In this way, the following problems can be treated:

  • Chipped or cracked teeth
  • Small, short or misshapen teeth
  • Gaps between teeth
  • Worn down teeth
  • Stained or discoloured teeth

How long will the composite bonding last for?

Dental bonding can last approximately 3 to 5 years and it is at this point when you will need to have your composite bonding updated or replaced.

You can help to enhance the longevity of your teeth bonding by:

  • Maintaining good oral hygiene; brushing your teeth twice a day and flossing once a day
  • Attending regularly for check-ups and dental hygienist visits
  • Avoiding bad habits such as chewing and biting on things which can cause chips to your composite bonding such as sellotape, wrappers
  • We advise that the chewing of gum is not conducive to long-term maintenance of bonding or indeed any larger fillings

Teeth whitening ﹀

We can safely lighten dark-coloured or stained teeth for a more natural, brighter smile.

We employ two types of teeth whitening procedures – Boutique and also Enlighten systems. Both systems utilize close fitting whitening trays that hold a small reservoir around each tooth to safely lighten the colour of your teeth.

We custom make a close fitting whitening tray and provide you with simple instructions, so you can whiten your teeth over a few nights in your own home. With the Enlighten system you may also receive in surgery teeth whitening as part of the process.

We always record the shade of your teeth before the treatment and afterwards, in the follow up appointment, so you can see the improvement.

Tooth re-contouring ﹀

If you have teeth that are angled, longer or slightly chipped it can affect the look of your smile and your confidence. Tooth re-contouring is a great solution to this.

Painless, simple, immediately effective and requiring no injections this procedure is less invasive than crown treatments. This will only work when the sharp edges of teeth that require re-contouring are minor and not close within the dentine of the tooth which contains nerves. The dentist can advise you of the best options available.

In combination with cosmetic white fillings, tooth re-contouring can help bring back your natural smile.

Cosmetic white fillings ﹀

You might find your pre-existing metal-amalgam fillings unsightly. Fortunately we can safely replace them with a tooth-colour matched ‘composite’ white filling.

Like amalgam fillings, composite fillings can be used to:

  • replace lost fillings
  • repair damaged teeth
  • repair decayed teeth

However, unlike amalgam fillings, white fillings chemically bond to the tooth so they:

  • require less tooth preparation(drilling)
  • can repair your chipped and broken teeth,
  • can repair the biting surfaces of your front teeth
  • cover unsightly marks within your teeth
  • recreate the shape and profile of your tooth so it appears complete again

White fillings are life-like and improve the appearance of your teeth in many ways. They are very effective and aesthetic but it is important to remember, that no amount of dentistry can improve on what nature produced, so we place a heavy emphasis on prevention.

At your check-up, your dentist will advise you of the best options or combinations of treatment to suit you.

At Dental Wellbeing we do not provide mercury-alloy (dental amalgam) or “silver” fillings. We only use tooth-coloured composites for fillings or bonding, porcelain or ceramic veneers, onlays or crowns.

Veneers ﹀

We can improve the look and feel of your teeth in a variety of ways using veneers. Usually made from a thin layer of porcelain which fits over the surface of a tooth, veneers are long lasting and often require little preparation.

We can also make veneers from Zirconia a hard ultra-strong ceramic material which is also tooth coloured.

Veneers:

  • will be colour-matched to your other teeth
  • improve the whiteness of your discoloured teeth
  • improve the look of any gaps between your teeth
  • re-position your misaligned teeth
  • repair your chipped teeth

Porcelain and ceramic veneers make the teeth appear natural and healthy. They are not a life long treatment and as such it is important to consider this and other factors when you are making your choice – the dentists can guide you and give you all the pros and cons of various alternatives at your check-up.

Ceramic (metal-free) crowns ﹀

Where a tooth is broken down or weakened through decay or a very large filling we would usually suggest a crown or ‘cap’. We also advise crowns if your teeth are discoloured or misaligned. A crown covers the entire chewing surface of the tooth so offers it extra protection and strength.

Our crowns are:

  • metal free,
  • specifically design for you using computer technology
  • match your tooth colour
  • look and feel like your natural teeth
  • less likely to cause you an allergic reaction
  • precision made as we use the latest digital technology when scanning your teeth
  • biocompatible, so is unlikely to cause an inflammatory reaction at the gum-line

Depending on the strength of the tooth underneath, your oral hygiene, and regular checks, a crown can last for many years.

Cosmetic dentures ﹀

Losing one of more teeth can cause misery, discomfort and difficulties. Thankfully we can easily fill any gaps with removable dentures. Using realistic looking acrylic resin dentures we can maintain the natural look of your smile.

  • stop your remaining teeth tilting

  • replace the lost support in your cheeks to give you a fuller face
